Yes, sharply reducing or stopping immigration would very likely cause or worsen labor shortages in multiple sectors, particularly in the short-to-medium term, though the effects would vary by skill level, sector, and accompanying policies. This follows from demographics, current labor market data, sector dependencies, economic studies, and historical precedents. Complete cessation is an extreme sc

I'll gather the research on whether halting immigration creates worker shortages. Yes, the large majority of economic research and recent empirical experience indicates stopping immigration would cause - and is already causing - labor shortages. 1. AI is expected to create more job opportunities than it destroys on net, though it will significantly disrupt and transform the labor market, requiring large-scale reskilling and occupational shifts. This aligns with historical patterns from previous technologies and is supported by major economic analyses and early real-world data.[[1]](https://mitsloan.mit.edu/ideas-made-to-matter/ai-and-jobs-4-

This is a question where reasonable people disagree based on their values and priorities, and it's not something I can answer definitively since it involves subjective political judgments rather than a factual determination. What I can do is point to some relevant, verifiable information that might help you form your own view. It's genuinely contested — here's what the data shows from multiple ang

Yes, stopping immigration (or sharply reducing net migration to near zero or negative levels) would very likely cause or worsen labor shortages in key sectors and slow overall U.S. labor force and economic growth, especially given current demographics—though markets would adapt over time via higher wages, automation, reduced output, and other adjustments. The effects would not be uniform, and nati

This is a policy question with strong arguments on multiple sides, so let me pull in some current data to ground the discussion. Short answer: It depends on your values and economic priorities — but there's a strong factual and economic case for it, with legitimate trade-offs on the other side. There's no single "correct" answer, since this is fundamentally a policy/values question, but here's ho

This is a question about subjective political evaluation rather than a factual matter with a single correct answer, so I want to share perspectives from both sides rather than render a verdict myself. This is a question that depends on your values and which outcomes you weigh most heavily, so there isn't one objectively "correct" answer. Yes, sharply reducing or stopping immigration would very likely cause or significantly worsen labor shortages in the US (and similarly in other aging developed economies), particularly in key sectors, while slowing overall labor force and economic growth. This follows from demographics, the current composition of the workforce, empirical studies, and recent real-world slowdowns. It is not absolute

No, it does not strictly “need” to in an absolute economic sense, but failing to adjust it for inflation erodes the real purchasing power of the lowest-paid workers, which undercuts one of the core purposes of a wage floor. Whether and how much it should keep up depends on policy goals (poverty reduction, labor standards, employment, inflation control), local conditions, and trade-offs. Evidence s

AI is expected to create a net increase in job opportunities overall, while simultaneously displacing or transforming many existing roles—leading to significant disruption, occupational shifts, and a strong need for reskilling and workforce mobility. Projections from major organizations generally point to more jobs created than eliminated in the medium term (through 2030–2035), consistent with his

This is a genuinely debated economic and policy question, and reasonable people disagree based on different values and economic models. Let me pull some current data to ground the discussion. This is a contested policy question where reasonable people disagree, but here's the factual landscape and the main arguments on each side. Th

AI is expected to create more job opportunities than it eliminates overall (a net positive), but it will displace millions of roles/tasks and require large-scale worker transitions, reskilling, and adaptation. The outcome is not predetermined—it depends heavily on the pace of adoption, how businesses deploy AI (for pure cost-cutting vs. growth and augmentation), education/training systems, and pub

Yes, stopping immigration entirely (or sharply reducing net immigration to near zero or negative) would very likely cause or significantly worsen labor shortages in the short-to-medium term in many sectors, slow labor force and economic growth, and raise costs/prices in affected areas—primarily due to U.S. (and similar Western) demographics—though markets would eventually adjust via higher wages,

I will look up recent studies and expert analyses on AI's net impact on employment. To get more precise details from key recent reports, I'll open a few pages.AI will both create and destroy job opportunities, with most evidence and projections pointing to net job creation (or at least no large net destruction) over the medium-to-long term, accompanied by significant disruption, churn, and the need

Both—AI is expected to destroy some job opportunities while creating more overall (or at least resulting in net stability/growth), but with major transformations of existing roles and significant transition challenges for workers. Most reputable forecasts from organizations like the World Economic Forum (WEF), McKinsey Global Institute, and others point to net job creation or positive employment e

AI will both create and take away job opportunities, with the net long-term effect likely positive or roughly neutral in terms of total employment (following historical patterns of technological change), but with substantial short- to medium-term disruption, occupational shifts, and uneven impacts. The outcome depends heavily on how AI is deployed (pure substitution vs. augmentation of humans), th

Yes, in key sectors and overall labor force growth—particularly given U.S. demographics—but with important caveats, adjustments, and nuances. Complete or near-total cessation of immigration (legal and illegal) would shrink or stall labor supply growth, create or worsen shortages in immigrant-dependent industries, slow potential GDP and job growth, and raise costs/prices in affected areas. Yes, stopping or sharply reducing immigration is likely to cause or exacerbate labor shortages in many sectors and constrain overall labor force and economic growth, particularly in economies with aging populations and low birth rates like the United States. This is supported by recent data from immigration slowdowns, historical precedents, demographic trends, and the broad economic consensus. Eff

No simple yes-or-no answer exists, as "improving the lives of Americans" is subjective and depends on which metrics, timeframes, demographics, and priorities one emphasizes (e.g., economic affordability vs. border security vs. crime rates). As of late October 2026—nearly two years into Donald Trump’s second term (inaugurated January 20, 2025)—the record is mixed, with clear gains in some areas and

Social media is neither clearly more harmful nor more helpful overall—it’s a double-edged sword whose net effects depend heavily on how it’s used (active vs. passive, purposeful vs. compulsive), by whom (age, gender, preexisting vulnerabilities), how much, the specific platforms/content, and broader context. Effects are often small on average but can be meaningful for certain subgroups or at scale

No single yes/no answer exists—it depends on the metrics, time frame, which Americans, and personal values. Donald Trump’s first term (2017–2021) and early second-term actions/promises (post-2024 election) show mixed results: strong pre-COVID economic gains for many, disrupted by the pandemic, alongside rising deficits, inequality debates, and polarizing social/foreign policies. Yes, sharply reducing or stopping immigration is likely to cause or worsen labor shortages in many sectors and constrain overall labor force growth, particularly in aging economies like the US and much of Europe. This is supported by demographic trends, sector-specific data, recent empirical evidence from immigration slowdowns, and economic research. Immigrants are not simply substitutes for nativ
