Is climate change real?
Yes
Yes. Climate change is real, and the warming observed since the late 1800s is primarily caused by human activities—mainly burning fossil fuels and deforestation.
Why we know:
•Basic physics: Greenhouse gases (CO2, methane) trap heat; this has been understood since the 19th century.
•Measurements: Global surface temperatures and ocean heat content have risen; atmospheric CO2 is ~50% higher than preindustrial levels.
•Visible changes: Melting glaciers and Arctic sea ice, rising sea levels, shifting seasons and species ranges, and more frequent/intense heat extremes.
•Scientific consensus: Major scientific bodies worldwide (e.g., the IPCC, U.S. National Academies) conclude human influence is the dominant cause of recent warming.
