Here's a roundup of the major stories making headlines today, October 11, 2026:

Middle East Conflict Escalation

A deadly attack struck Riyadh's international airport, with reports indicating a Houthi attack on Riyadh airport killed 12 and injured more than 300 people. The Times of Israel's live coverage notes at least 12 killed in the latest attack on Riyadh international airport, with hundreds more wounded. This has drawn in the United States, as Trump is reportedly debating whether to join the fight against the Houthis.

Separately, tensions with Iran remain high — Iran is said to still be able to produce missiles and drones, and is being armed by Russia. Inside Iran, there's political turmoil as hardline MPs aligned with the Paydari Front have moved to impeach the foreign minister over unauthorized US talks, accusing him of meeting US envoy Steve Witkoff at the UN General Assembly, a claim disputed by the Supreme National Security Council chief. Additionally, Iran reportedly struck commercial tankers outside the Strait of Hormuz, hitting one vessel off Qatar and another off Fujairah, suggesting an expanding campaign beyond the strait.

Ukraine-Russia War

In a significant political development, Trump has said it is time for Ukraine to replace President Zelenskyy as leader. This follows reports that Trump said Ukraine needs a new leader after a diesel deal between Ukraine and Russia, with earlier reporting noting Zelensky slammed Trump for accepting Russia's offer to supply oil to the US and world markets.

Natural Disasters

•Panama: The government declared a state of emergency following two powerful earthquakes that shook the country, with reports of a magnitude 7.7 quake causing a cathedral to collapse and prompting tsunami warnings.

•Hurricanes: Hurricane Simon strengthened to a Category 4 storm off Mexico's coast, while Hurricane Isaias made a life-threatening landfall in Florida.

US Domestic News

•A tragic mass shooting occurred, with nine people dead in a mass shooting in Erie, Pennsylvania.

•Death penalty controversy: Pope Leo condemned the death penalty as Trump considers a livestreamed execution.

•Tennessee execution survivor Christa Pike was released from the hospital and returned to prison.

•Diplomatic note: Secretary of State Rubio pledged US cooperation in the Okinawa murder case.

Europe

•Belgium: Police clashed with protesters in Brussels as thousands marched against the Belgian government's planned spending cuts.

•Poland: A troubling trend continues as three people were injured in Poland's third youth stabbing attack in four days.

•Spain: Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez launched his election campaign with housing as a key theme.

Health Concerns

The WHO is investigating after a pneumonia death of a plague-lab worker in Russia, with the cause still unclear, while Russia has denied the plague death but has quarantined 200 people without explanation.
