Short answer: It’s contested. As of October 12, 2026, no international court has issued a final, binding judgment that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. The question turns on a specific legal test (especially “specific intent”) that courts have not yet resolved on the merits. What the law requires - Under the 1948 Genocide Convention, genocide is certain prohibited acts (e.g., killing member

That is a small fraction—not a majority—

Short answer: No reliable, independent body has found that a majority were militants. That claim comes mainly from Israeli government/affiliated analyses and has been disputed by press‑freedom groups. Key points: - The Israel Defense Forces published “The Press Files,” asserting that at least 170 of those publicly described as Gaza journalists or media workers killed in the war were actually memb

No. Israel's military actions in Gaza since October 7, 2023, do not meet the legal definition of genocide under the 1948 Genocide Convention, though they involve high civilian casualties, extensive destruction, and serious debates over international humanitarian law (IHL) compliance in a brutal urban war. Genocide requires both prohibited acts (actus reus: killing members of the group, causing ser
