Is the United Nations still relevant?

Yes, the United Nations remains relevant—though imperfectly so, and its effectiveness varies sharply by issue area. It is the only near-universal forum (193 member states) for diplomacy, standard-setting, and collective action on transnational problems that no single country or smaller coalition can fully address. At the same time, it faces profound challenges from great-power rivalry, an outdated Security Council structure, funding pressures, and repeated failures to halt major wars, which erode its legitimacy and influence in high-stakes peace and security matters.
