Were a majority of the Gazan journalists killed since October 7th, 2023 linked to terrorist organizations?

This charged claim needs close checking — I'll investigate how many Gazan journalists killed since October 2023 have been linked to terrorist groups.

The majority claim is contested and depends on source and definition of "journalist":

Claims that a majority were linked come from Israeli government and pro-Israel watchdogs:

•The Israel Defense Forces in October 2026 published a database identifying 170 Palestinians killed in Gaza who were publicly identified as civilian "journalists" were actually affiliated with terrorist organizations
•The IDF breakdown was 118 members of Hamas's military wing, 49 members of Islamic Jihad
•A study by the Meir Amit Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center examined 266 media workers reported killed between October 7, 2023, and November 30, 2025. Of these, 157 — roughly 60% — were either members of terrorist groups or worked for outlets affiliated with them
•The same center elsewhere described 60%—at least 157 individuals—were affiliated with terrorist organizations, primarily Hamas
•An independent review by Israeli media watchdog HonestReporting of the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) list found that 102 of the 191 names left on the casualty roster still have demonstrable connections to terrorist organizations
•HonestReporting concluded 53 percent of those still listed have terrorist ties

International press-freedom groups dispute this:

•CPJ's own internal review, launched June 9, 2026, examined 229 cases. It removed 22 cases, 19 for actively participating in combat or belonging to the militant wing of a non-state armed actor; three because their roles as journalist or media worker could not be established
•After the review CPJ concluded that Israel was responsible for the deaths of 191 journalists and media workers in IOPT since October 7, 2023
•CPJ's preliminary figures as of September 24, 2026 were at least 247 journalists and media workers killed across Gaza, Yemen, Lebanon, Israel and Iran since Oct 7, 2023, of which 189 were Palestinians killed in Gaza
•Other organizations cite higher totals without the terror-linked filter, such as the UN Special Rapporteur report that Israeli forces have "killed nearly 300 journalists and wounded more than 400" since October 2023

Methodological issues:

•CPJ investigators could not conduct on-the-ground research in Gaza because Israel bars foreign journalists and researchers from entering the Gaza Strip independently
•The IDF list has been challenged by Palestinian and other outlets, which allege Israel's latest list, which accuses 170 Palestinian journalists and media workers killed in Gaza of being affiliated with resistance groups, has been debunked due to a lack of credible evidence
•CPJ says it defaults to classifying all Gazan journalists whose deaths and journalistic credentials it can verify as killed in connection to their work unless definitively proven otherwise, and applies a presumption of duty that any journalist killed was engaged in trying to provide some sort of coverage.

There is no independent consensus. Israeli military / HonestReporting / Meir Amit analyses claim 53-60% of those described as journalists killed in Gaza were members of or affiliated with Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad or other terrorist groups. CPJ and other international press freedom and UN bodies reject that characterization, retaining ~191 deaths as journalists killed by Israel and removing only about 20 names for confirmed combatant status.
