🌍 BRICS Summit in New Delhi Wraps Up
India hosted the 18th BRICS Summit, with world leaders including Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin in attendance. On the closing day, PM Modi addressed the session, calling India's term as BRICS chair a "win-win collaboration" and cautioning against the "weaponisation" of technology and critical minerals, saying such measures could create "hurdles" to common growth. Notably, Modi paused his speech after Xi Jinping appeared uncomfortable, a moment that drew significant attention during the summit. The bloc adopted the New Delhi Declaration unanimously, calling for calm in West Asia, backing a two-state solution, and pushing for trade, energy stability and reduced reliance on the US dollar.
⚔️ Russia-Ukraine War Continues to Escalate
Overnight drone warfare intensified: several civilians were killed and more than 20 others wounded as Russia and Ukraine continued to attack each other with waves of drones, with Russia launching 863 drones at Ukraine over the last 24 hours. Russia carried out two drone attacks near Ukraine's border with NATO member Poland, raising fresh alarm about the conflict spilling toward NATO territory. In Odesa, at least nine people were injured in a Russian night-time attack on the city, which is home to Ukraine's main Black Sea port hub and has faced sustained strikes as Kyiv accuses Moscow of trying to choke off its exports.
